Official statistics
How many restaurants and hotels are there in Florida?
County Business Patterns, the source for businesses with employees, counts locations, not companies: a chain with 40 restaurants is 40 establishments. A list with one row per registered business will therefore be shorter than these figures for multi-location operators.

Sources: U.S. Census Bureau, County Business Patterns 2023; U.S. Census Bureau, Nonemployer Statistics 2024 (methodology). Each row adds establishments with paid employees (County Business Patterns 2023, NAICS 2017) and businesses without paid employees (Nonemployer Statistics 2024, NAICS 2022, which leaves out businesses with less than $1,000 in receipts except in construction). These are Census Bureau statistics, not counts from our dataset.
