Florida industry export

Florida farms, nurseries and food manufacturers by county

The export covers farms, growers and food manufacturers registered in Florida, defined by NAICS 2022 (11, 311). For scale: 26,108 businesses in Florida per the U.S. Census Bureau, County Business Patterns 2023 + Nonemployer Statistics 2024: 2,541 with employees in 2023 and 23,567 without employees in 2024; that is official statistics. Our Florida database is active, but per-industry record counts are still being compiled. Name the commodity or product (for example citrus, nursery plants or seafood processing) and the counties; we will reply with what we can deliver.

Data as of October 15, 2026. Industry size: U.S. Census Bureau, County Business Patterns 2023 + Nonemployer Statistics 2024: businesses with paid employees (CBP 2023, establishments, NAICS 2017 codes 11, 311) plus businesses without paid employees (NES 2024, NAICS 2022 codes 11, 311); not our dataset. Statewide figure for all industries: Florida Department of State, Division of Corporations, Yearly Statistics, as of July 8, 2026; not our dataset. NAICS titles: 11 Forestry, fishing and agricultural support activities (crop and animal production are outside CBP); 311 Food Manufacturing (U.S. Census Bureau).

What the industry covers in Florida

The industry combines NAICS sector 11, Agriculture, Forestry, Fishing and Hunting (crop production, animal production and aquaculture, forestry and logging, fishing, and support activities), with NAICS subsector 311, Food Manufacturing (fruit and vegetable preserving, dairy, meat, seafood, bakeries and other food products).

Florida agriculture spans very different commodities, among them citrus, vegetables, sugarcane, nursery and greenhouse plants, cattle and seafood. For a list, it matters which of these you mean, because the suppliers, seasons and growing regions differ.

A business list built on corporate records has a clear limit in farming: a farm run by an individual or a family without a registered entity does not appear in the state corporate registry at all. The planned export covers registered businesses (farming corporations and LLCs, packing houses, cooperatives and food manufacturers) and is not a census of farms.

Contact coverage: our expectation

Our expectation, which is an assumption and not a finding from data: We expect fewer public contact details here than in service industries, because a farm does not need a website to sell its crop. Packing houses, nurseries that sell to the trade and food manufacturers are more likely to publish a phone number or a general email address. Per-industry contact counts are still being compiled; once measured, they will replace this note.

Example of a request

We are looking for citrus growers, packing houses and fruit and vegetable processors in Polk, Highlands, Hardee and DeSoto counties with a phone number, to offer them irrigation equipment. Hobby farms without a registered business should not be included. Please state what you can deliver, the price and the as-of date of the data.

This is an example only, not a promise of a record count.

Official statistics

Agriculture and food in Florida: what the statistics do and do not count

Read these figures with care. County Business Patterns excludes crop and animal production (NAICS 111 and 112) altogether, so farms, groves, nurseries and ranches are not in the numbers below; sector 11 here means forestry, fishing and support activities only (CBP methodology). Nonemployer Statistics, which adds the businesses without employees, excludes NAICS 111 and 112 as well (NES methodology). Food manufacturing is covered in full.

NAICS 11: 16,822 businesses
Forestry, fishing and agricultural support activities (crop and animal production are outside CBP). 1,227 with employees (CBP 2023) + 15,595 without employees (NES 2024)
NAICS 311: 9,286 businesses
Food Manufacturing. 1,314 with employees (CBP 2023) + 7,972 without employees (NES 2024)
NAICS 115: 8,318 businesses
Support Activities for Agriculture and Forestry (harvesting crews, packing, farm management). 774 with employees (CBP 2023) + 7,544 without employees (NES 2024)
NAICS 114: 6,982 businesses
Fishing, Hunting and Trapping. 251 with employees (CBP 2023) + 6,731 without employees (NES 2024)
NAICS 113: 1,522 businesses
Forestry and Logging. 202 with employees (CBP 2023) + 1,320 without employees (NES 2024)

Counties with the most businesses (CBP + NES)

Miami-Dade (4,476), Palm Beach (1,835), Broward (1,809), Hillsborough (1,196), Orange (1,115). Figures for all 67 counties are in the table Florida businesses by county.

Sources: U.S. Census Bureau, County Business Patterns 2023; U.S. Census Bureau, Nonemployer Statistics 2024 (methodology). Each row adds establishments with paid employees (County Business Patterns 2023, NAICS 2017) and businesses without paid employees (Nonemployer Statistics 2024, NAICS 2022, which leaves out businesses with less than $1,000 in receipts except in construction). These are Census Bureau statistics, not counts from our dataset.

Agricultural registrations and permits in Florida

Nursery registration (FDACS)

Before selling or distributing nursery stock in Florida, a nurseryman must apply for a certificate of registration; the same applies to stock dealers, agents and plant brokers (Fla. Stat. § 581.131). The department under Chapter 581 is the Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services.

Food permits (FDACS)

A food permit from the department is required of any person or business that operates a food establishment, with exceptions listed in the statute (Fla. Stat. § 500.12). That covers food processors and packers; restaurants are licensed under a different chapter by a different agency.

Corporate registry

Farming corporations, LLCs and cooperatives organized as corporations file with the Division of Corporations. A family farm run in the owners' own names appears there only if it has registered a fictitious name.

What this means for a list

We know of no single public record that lists “all farms.” The planned export starts from registered businesses and adds a commodity only where public sources show it; we will say plainly where a classification is uncertain.

What the export will not contain

  • Farms run by individuals without a registered entity
  • Acreage, herd size, crop types per field or yields
  • Land ownership or lease records
  • Farm labor contractors’ worker data
  • Consent to marketing or do-not-call screening

FAQ

Questions about Florida agriculture and food data

No. It is planned to contain registered businesses only. Farms operated by individuals without a registered entity are not in the state corporate registry and are therefore not covered.

That is the plan: by NAICS code 311 and its subgroups. Other producers are listed under Manufacturing.

Not by default. Beverage manufacturing is NAICS 312, a separate subsector from food manufacturing. Say so in your request if you need it.

Nurseries that grow plants are agriculture (NAICS 1114). Landscaping services are classified as services to buildings (NAICS 561730) and belong to Professional and Business Services.

The size of the industry in Florida is 26,108 businesses in Florida per the U.S. Census Bureau, County Business Patterns 2023 + Nonemployer Statistics 2024: 2,541 with employees in 2023 and 23,567 without employees in 2024 (source); that is the official market scale, not a count of our delivered records. Our per-industry record count is still being compiled; contact us for the current count for Agriculture and Food. For orientation: Active business entities registered with the Florida Division of Corporations (corporations, limited liability companies, partnerships and trusts) – 4,129,182 as of July 8, 2026 (Florida Department of State, Division of Corporations, Yearly Statistics). That figure covers all industries and counts registered entities whether or not they operate. The Census figures on this page give a sense of scale for Agriculture and Food.

Federal law does not require prior consent for commercial email to businesses, but every message must comply with the CAN-SPAM Act (FTC compliance guide); sales calls and texts are restricted more tightly by federal rules and by Fla. Stat. § 501.059. An export contains no consent. Our data is not screened against any do-not-call list, including the National Do Not Call Registry and the Florida Do Not Call list. How Fla. Stat. § 501.059(4) applies to business records that include phone numbers is a question for an attorney, and no Florida dataset with phone numbers will be released until that question is resolved. The compliance of a campaign is your responsibility. The rules are explained in Cold outreach rules in Florida; this is not legal advice.

From public sources: corporate filings of the Florida Division of Corporations (Sunbiz), the license and registration records named on this page and the companies' own websites (sources and methodology). The file is a UTF-8 CSV or, on request, XLSX or JSON; a sample with fictitious businesses shows the 15 columns.
